Hydrogen Systems (Senior) Research Engineer
Toshiba is recruiting a Hydrogen Systems (Senior) Research Engineer for its new Regenerative Innovation Centre (RIC). The main focus of RIC is on innovation and technology development functions relevant to green and digital transformation such as carbon neutral, carbon negative and circular economy, with an emphasis on restoration, renewal and sustainability to contribute to the long-term wellbeing of ecosystems, societies and individuals.
RIC’s contribution is not limited to EU and UK but it also operates in Japan and globally.
The successful candidate will be responsible for researching and developing advanced technologies in the areas above through proactive communication with Toshiba Corporation in Japan, global business partners, academia partners and customers.
These activities also include, but are not limited to, proposing valuable projects to externally funded projects with key partners in the EMEA region and collaborating with business divisions of Toshiba Corporation.
Additionally, the position plays an important role in producing high-quality patent applications and technical publications as needed.

Target Technologies : Hydrogen systems for green and digital transformations
Role :
R&D on hydrogen systems with cell materials developed by Toshiba Corporation 1 .
This R&D includes but is not limited to technologies of next-generation cell materials, cell-stack design / prototyping / testing, system integration and management for water electrolysis and fuel-cell systems, and their data handling, recycling, and joint evaluation with potential customers or academia partners in collaboration with hydrogen business and R&D units in Toshiba Group.
The role requires a deep understanding of energy systems, hydrogen systems, electrolysis / fuel-cell technologies and materials, control algorithms related to system management, a willingness to learn and the ability to work with cross-functional teams.

Basic Key Responsibilities :
- Conducting industry-applied R&D such as innovative research and advanced development in the field of the target technology
- Networking with business and R&D divisions in Toshiba Corporation, business partners, and academia partners, etc.
- Proposing projects relevant to the target technology to EU or local external funding, then joining to deliver field trials as proof of concept, through engaging with academia and industry experts
- Producing intellectual property and high-quality journal and conference papers
- Investigating relevant standardization activities for advanced technology features
- Supporting RIC’s deliverables under internal company contract and in external collaborative projects etc.
Basic Key Qualifications and Skills :
- Extensive technical knowledge and hands-on skillset of the field in the Target Technology
- Ability to seize R&D opportunities in line with technology challenges and business objectives
- Proactive analytic problem-solving skills
- PhD (or near completion) in electrical / electronic engineering, systems engineering, materials engineering or related discipline
- Demonstrating the ability to work with other engineers not only in EMEA but globally and showing a broad understanding of the work across the global organisation
- Excellent team player with experience of working in collaborative projects
- Strong communication skills in English
- Communication skills in German would be a plus
