Job Mission

As the Engineering Manager on our Company Squad, you will be a technical leader and a people manager. While your work will be primarily hands-off, you’ll bring deep technical experience, organisational awareness and decision-making skills to make the team more autonomous, more productive and to operate with higher morale. Company Squad manage the B2B side of our business and focus solely on making hiring companies successful. Whether these are smaller regional businesses or huge national and multi-national corporations, Company Squad offer the tools, processes, integrations and analytics to make them happy.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and manage a team of full stack engineers, providing mentoring, guidance and technical oversight in driving the delivery of projects that create customer impact.
  • Collaborate with Product Management and stakeholders across the business to deliver software that meets our strategic goals.
  • Help to drive the future technical direction of the squad.
  • Build a culture of technical innovation and craftsmanship, operational excellence, product understanding and business awareness.
  • Develop a robust engineering team through identifying skill and experience needs, recruitment, onboarding, coaching and finding opportunities for professional development.
  • Influence work priorities outside your team through sponsoring the right technical solutions for problems that span multiple products and services.
  • Manage and optimise the team’s productivity and morale.
  • Identify and tackle problems, have difficult conversations where necessary, act as tie-breaker and decision-maker to ensure your team and the company move forward.

What We’re Looking For

  • You have at 6+ years of software engineering experience and 3+ years of management experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong technical background as a software engineer developing large scale end-to-end software solutions.
  • Enjoy approaching complex topics with an open mind and eye for simplicity.
  • Have a passion for people, supporting and coaching your engineers without micromanaging.
  • Apply the same care to customer experience and product quality as you do to technical topics, and be able to foster that in others.
  • Ability to quickly build relationships with stakeholders and work in a solution-oriented way.
  • Ability to build high-performing and self-driving teams that are able to balance speed, quality and risk.
