DOCTORAL RESEARCHER ON LIVING SENSOR MATERIALS (F / M / D)
The INM is looking for an enthusiastic Doctoral Researcher interested in developing Living Sensor Materials. This research combines materials science, chemistry, and biochemistry and aims at new functional materials for detection of chemical analytes in environmental applications.
The PhD project is interdisciplinary, involving (bio)-chemical nanomaterial synthesis, physico-chemical analysis, and testing.
The position offers experience in cutting-edge scientific research, ample opportunities for comprehensive training, interdisciplinary collaboration, and collaborative exchange with other projects and doctoral researchers.
The work focuses on the following topics :
- Research on chemically active, functional composite materials that dynamically form plasmonic nanomaterials for environmental sensing
- Characterization of synthesized materials to quantify optical properties as a function of the (bio)chemical reactions and nanoscale structure formation in the material
- Design of plasmonic biofilm-based nanomaterials for sensing environmental pollutants
- Interaction with biologists who perform genetic engineering to integrate living components in the material
Your profile :
We are seeking enthusiastic candidate with a degree in materials science, chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or related fields.
The candidate will be part of international, multi-disciplinary teams in which English is the primary language of communication and reporting.
Since we work on application-oriented research, candidates with entrepreneurial interests are appreciated.
We offer :
A 3-year contract with the possibility of prolongation for a fourth year.
A dynamic, interdisciplinary, and international research environment with excellent, state-of-the-art infrastructure.
A cooperative, friendly, and supportive environment, with plenty of opportunities to interact with other researchers, also outside the team and the institute.
The opportunity for training to support high-quality research and to further develop your profile.
Please send us the following through the online application system :
- Motivation letter
- CV (max 2 pages)
- Publication list (if available)
- Academic transcripts
- Contact details of 2 references
The deadline for submission is August 31, 2024
