We’re looking for a Technical Animation Artist to support the development of a UE5 title. You’ll help build, maintain and improve our animation pipeline – especially for custom MetaHuman characters, mocap integration, and facial animation workflows.

The entire pipeline is well documented – from retargeting and exporting to A2F and picker setup – but we’re looking for someone who can take ownership, understand and evolve the system independently , and troubleshoot where needed.

Your Responsibilities

  • Setup and maintain custom rigs and MetaHuman characters in Maya
  • Handle the full retargeting workflow , including Move.ai mocap data
  • Setup and refine Audio-to-Face (A2F) based facial animation for MetaHumans (joint-based + JSON)
  • Export character and weapon animations from Maya to Unreal (including facial + body + bookmark-based splitting)
  • Support mesh swapping , skin weight transfers , and rig updates when characters or outfits change
  • Maintain clean and export-ready Maya scenes (naming conventions, bookmarks, versioning)
  • Assist the animation team with picker tools , control GUIs , IK / FK switching , and pose libraries
  • Work with cloth simulations and export Alembic caches for dynamic clothing (e.g., coats)
  • Collaborate with the Unreal-side team to ensure correct implementation

Requirements

  • Strong experience with Maya rigging, skinning , and animation export workflows
  • Comfortable working with MetaHumans , including adding custom bones (e.g. weapons, cameras)
  • In-depth knowledge of Unreal Engine 5 , especially character animation, Control Rig , and facial systems
  • Proven experience with Move.ai or similar markerless mocap retargeting
  • Familiarity with Audio-to-Face (A2F) workflows and JSON-based facial animation in Maya
  • Solid knowledge of Python or MEL scripting to maintain and adapt internal Maya tools
  • Ability to navigate complex but documented pipelines and improve them independently
  • Familiarity with version control, preferably Perforce , and structured production folder hierarchies
  • Bonus Skills

  • Background in high-end cinematics or AA / AAA game productions
  • Experience with Alembic export , cloth simulation , or Geometry Caches

You’ll contribute to raising animation quality and technical stability to a new level by ensuring smooth, scalable pipelines and clean implementation.
