About 500 indigenous peoples live in Amazonia and the Gran Chaco, spread over eleven countries. Their habitat extends over 8.6 million km² and is characterized by the highest biodiversity. This habitat is threatened by deforestation, illegal settlement, industrial activities and cultural assimilation. Misereor partner organizations are involved in areas such as territorial protection, agriculture, climate and discrimination. In order to effectively counter this environmental destruction, it is necessary to build good and thus effective networks.

As consultant at AGIAMONDO , you will work closely with the local stakeholders and Misereor in Aachen. In your country of residence, Germany, you will work on a mobile basis and undertake approximately four trips per year to Latin America.

Your tasks

  • Networking : Establishing and maintaining local networks with indigenous and civil society organizations. Strategy development : Participation in the development of an action strategy of indigenous and civil society organizations in international contexts.
  • Capacity Building : On-site technical support in the context of multi-week consulting trips and online with indigenous and civil society actors. Knowledge Exchange : Design of educational and exchange events with indigenous and civil society actors mainly in Amazonia (Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela) and in the Gran Chaco (Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay).
  • Lobbying : organization and accompaniment of lobbying trips.
  • Studies and evidence : Participation in the preparation of studies in support of claims of indigenous and non-indigenous organizations.
  • Public relations : writing publications to raise awareness on indigenous issues.
  • Collaboration : Active contribution to Misereor working groups.

Your profile

  • Degree in anthropology or a comparable social science, understanding of indigenous peoples' cultures and their processes of change.
  • At least 3 years of practical experience working with indigenous peoples in Latin America, especially in the Amazon or Gran Chaco, preferably in the context of development cooperation or applied research.
  • Knowledge and experience in human rights, advocacy, and organizational consulting to effectively support the needs and concerns of indigenous peoples and their organizations.
  • Working experience in consulting to accompany indigenous organizations in transformation processes. Business fluency in Spanish, Portuguese and German.
  • English language skills are an advantage. Experience using digital tools to support and enhance innovative consulting approaches is desirable.
