Position Description :

As a Product Design Engineer for Sealing Systems, you will be responsible for the design and development of automotive sealing components such as door seals, trunk seals, hood seals, and other body sealing systems. You will translate customer requirements into functional and manufacturable designs, ensure compliance with performance and safety standards, and collaborate closely with internal teams, suppliers, customers, and the parent company in China.

In this role, you are expected to be responsible for :

  • Design and develop sealing components (door, trunk, hood, and body seals) using CAD software (Siemens NX, Catia V5).
  • Translate customer and internal requirements into functional, manufacturable sealing system designs.
  • Create 3D models, 2D drawings, and release documentation for prototypes and production.
  • Conduct and lead DFMEA sessions specific to sealing systems to ensure product robustness.
  • Perform packaging analysis, section definition, and tolerance stack-ups for sealing components.
  • Ensure sealing designs comply with regulatory, safety, durability, and NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with CAE teams to validate sealing system performance (compression force, water management, acoustic performance, etc.).
  • Work closely with Sales, Quality, and Project Management to resolve technical issues and support customer projects.
  • Manage customer communication and data exchange processes for sealing systems.
  • Act as key technical interface with customers and the parent company in China, ensuring smooth communication, alignment, and technical support.
  • Actively contribute to RFI / RFQ processes : review customer specifications (Lastenhefte), support feasibility assessments, and prepare technical documentation for quotation packages.
  • Interface with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure feasibility, tooling considerations, and DFM / DFA compliance.
  • Support validation testing (e.g., water leak, wind noise, endurance tests) and root cause analysis.

Following qualifications and abilities are expected for this role :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive product design, ideally with sealing systems.
  • Proficient in CAD software (Siemens NX, Catia V5).
  • Strong knowledge of sealing system design principles (profile geometry, corner molding, flocking, material properties, etc.).
  • Experience with DFMEA and DVP&R.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes (e.g., extrusion, molding, secondary operations).
  • Understanding of sealing system validation methods (water leak, noise reduction, durability).
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with PLM systems (e.g., Teamcenter).
  • Fluent in German and English (spoken and written).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with international teams, including customers and the parent company in China.
  • Knowledge of OEM systems such as VW Group CONNECT / KVS, BMW Prisma, or Mercedes-Benz Smaragd is an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel for business worldwide.
