Professorship (§ 36 HG NRW) in “Urban Water Management”

legal basis : W 2 LBesG NRW).

The position will be based in the School of Architecture and Civil Engineering.

The position is to be taken up as soon as possible.

Expectations :

We are looking for a civil engineer with experience and outstanding achievements in research and teaching in the relevant area.

The professorship is intended to cover both the drainage, treatment, storage and resource use of urban rainwater and wastewater and the development of new forward-looking concepts for the possible uses of water in urban areas in research and teaching. Furthermore, significant professional contributions to the planning and realization of outstanding urban infrastructure projects are desired. The applicant is expected to have experience in obtaining third-party funding and research assignments.

Rainwater and wastewater disposal or treatment as well as fresh water supply is of great significance, not only in all cities and in municipalities but also, against the backdrop of climate change, in the whole world! The holder of the post is very welcome to set new trends in research and teaching.

The professorship will be based at the School’s Institute of Foundation, Waste and Water Engineering (IGAW) and should strengthen the promotion of the topic “Natural environment, engineering and safety”, which is established in the University of Wuppertal’s mission statement. Joint research initiatives with the Interdisciplinary Centre for Atmosphere and Environment and the Wuppertal Institute are welcomed.

The successful candidate is expected to give undergraduate and graduate courses on water management in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in civil engineering.

The lectures are to be given in German, resulting in corresponding requirements for language skills.

Requirements :

Besides pedagogical suitability, which has to be proven by appropriate previous experience or, in exceptional cases, demonstrated by excellent performance during the appointment procedure, the applicant is expected to have a particular aptitude for scientific work substantiated by the outstanding quality of a doctorate. Further scientific achievements must be demonstrated additionally and will be evaluated exclusively and comprehensively during the appointment procedure. The requirements for appointment to a first professorship include junior professorships, habilitations, employment as a research assistant at a university or at a non-university research institution and scientific positions in business, in administration or another social field in Germany or abroad.

The successful candidate is expected to actively support academic self-governance at the university.
