Im John Head of Research & Development at VoltStorage GmbH a Munichbased startup with currently about 75 employees. In 2016 Michael Jakob and Felix founded VoltStorage. As an expert for stationary flow batteries we want to cover all application areas of stationary battery storage systems with our multitechnological approach and thus contribute significantly to the energy transition.

Job Intro

To keep our big project moving forward I am currently looking for a

Senior Electrochemical Systems R&D Engineer Iron Salt Battery (m / f / d).

You will play a vital role in advancing our Iron Salt Battery technology through electrochemical systems development modeling and scaling from bench top to pilot scale.

Your tasks

  • Become an expert in the Iron Salt Battery electrochemical systems and submodules
  • Design and execute experiments to characterize subsystems and gather critical data for scaling
  • Develop mathematical models of the battery systems based on mass and energy balances and electrochemistry
  • Innovate and challenge existing assumptions to enhance module concepts and generate valuable intellectual property
  • Collaborate closely with crossfunctional teams (including mechanical engineering software development and electronics) to support system automation engineering and scaling
  • Lead root cause analyses to enhance system reliability and performance
  • Continuously evaluate and enhance testing methodologies ensuring accuracy repeatability and efficiency

Requirements

  • Masters degree or higher in Chemical Engineering Electrochemical Engineering Chemistry Physics or related field
  • Proficient in describing electrochemical systems using mass and energy balances and electrochemical relationships
  • 35 years professional experience in battery fuel cell or electrolyzer development and innovation
  • Strong knowledge of electrochemical testing methodologies including electrochemical analytical techniques cell performance evaluation and environmental testing
  • Excellent analytical and problemsolving skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to prioritize tasks manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Adaptability to evolving project requirements and a dynamic research environment
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment and adhering to laboratory protocols
