The Head of Finance reports to the COO

Position Overview :

The Finance Manager is a key role responsible for ensuring the financial health, compliance, and operational efficiency of the organization. This position involves strategic financial planning, risk management, and aligning financial practices with the company’s broader goals.

The Finance Manager will oversee budgeting, cost control, cash flow management, and compliance with German accounting law (HGB) and tax regulations. They will also play a significant role in developing financial strategies that ensure organizational growth while mitigating financial risks. The Finance Manager combines strong analytical abilities, a deep understanding of accounting and taxation laws, and leadership skills to drive financial excellence across all areas of the business.

The Finance Manager is responsible for the following tasks :

Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) :

  • Develop accurate budgets and forecasts that align with company goals.
  • Provide actionable insights and recommendations based on financial analysis to support strategic decisions.
  • Leverage a profound understanding of HGB German accounting standards to ensure alignment with local requirements.
  • Create rolling forecasts to provide accurate financial projections and adapt to changing business environments.

Cash Flow Management :

  • Ensure sufficient liquidity for day-to-day operations.
  • Implement strategies to optimize cash reserves, minimize unnecessary holding costs, and invest surplus funds for short-term returns.
  • Maintain a clear overview of cash flow trends to support proactive decision-making.
  • Cost Control and Efficiency :

  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs across operational, administrative, and project areas.
  • Evaluate and report on project expenses throughout their lifecycle, ensuring adherence to budgets and minimizing variances.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to streamline processes, enhance productivity, and eliminate inefficiencies.
  • Financial Reporting and Compliance :

  • Deliver timely, accurate, and comprehensive financial reports.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, including HGB, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Deliver detailed monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on the organization's financial health to senior leadership.
  • Mitigate risks of penalties or reputational damage through strict adherence to financial regulations.
  • Risk Management :

  • Identify financial risks related to operations, investments, and market dynamics.
  • Oversee insurance policies to safeguard the company’s assets and mitigate potential liabilities.
  • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks, such as implementing hedging practices or diversifying revenue streams.
  • Capital Structure and Investment Management :

  • Maintain an optimal mix of debt and equity to minimize the cost of capital and enhance organizational financial stability.
  • Evaluate potential investment opportunities, balancing risk and return to support company growth.
  • Prioritize capital deployment to high-impact projects and initiatives, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Tax Planning and Strategy :

  • Demonstrate an understanding of German tax regulations.
  • Develop tax strategies that ensure compliance while minimizing tax burden.
  • Guarantee timely and accurate tax filings.
  • Contract Revision and Negotiation :

  • Analyze financial terms of contracts with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure alignment with company objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify potential financial risks or unfavorable terms within contracts and recommend revisions to protect the organization’s interests.
  • Lead or support negotiations for financial and commercial aspects of contracts, including payment terms, pricing structures, and liability clauses.
  • Regularly review active contracts for amendments, renewals, or terminations to ensure continued alignment with evolving business needs.
