The INM research group Structure Formation is seeking a motivated Doctoral Researcher interested in the development of magnetically controlled Engineered Living Materials (ELMs) for biomedical applications. This PhD project is part of a collaborative initiative combining synthetic biology, nanomaterials, and biomedical engineering, with the aim to develop remotely controllable bio-hybrid implants for targeted drug delivery in the bladder. The project builds on recent advances in thermo-responsive genetic switches and magnetic nanoparticle composites for localized therapy. The position offers hands-on experience in advanced material design, bacterial engineering, thermal actuation, and translational research in collaboration with clinical and industrial partners.

Your Profile :
We are looking for a motivated candidate with a Master’s degree in chemistry, materials science, nanotechnology, or a related field. Experience in colloidal synthesis, surface modification, or magnetic materials is an advantage. You should be interested in interdisciplinary work at the interface of materials science and biomedical applications. Proficiency in English is required; German is helpful but not essential.
