The UFZ
The Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) with its 1,100 employees has gained an excellent reputation as an international competence centre for environmental sciences. We are part of the largest scientific organisation in Germany, the Helmholtz association. Our mission : Our research seeks to find a balance between social development and the long-term protection of our natural resources.
The job
In the Microbiome Biology group of the Department of Molecular Toxicology in Leipzig, we invite applications for a PhD Position (f / m / x) to research in the project METAMIC 3 (Metaproteome-based leveraged microbiome management in the context of One Health) which is funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network.
Your tasks
- You work in a group that works with mass spectrometer
- You extract whole proteomes from microbial cultures, human matrices and perform metaproteome applications
- You study the influence of microbial effectors in continuous stirred reactors (in vitro bioreactors) using a simplified human gut microbiome model (SIHUMIx) and to separate the soluble and particle-bound bacteria and measure their abundance, composition and their molecular functions using metaproteomics
- You present results at international conferences and prepare publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals
