Helmholtz-Zentrum für Infektionsforschung (HZI) - LogoHuman Microbe Alliance for Universal Health (HUMAN) program TheHelmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI), is offeringpositions for Junior Research / Technology / Clinician-ScientistGroup Leaders (m / f / d) in the field of infection research (withW1-professorship and tenure options) HZI is Germany's largestacademic institution dedicated to infection research.
It is amember of the Helmholtz Association, Germany's largest researchorganization, and a member of the German Center for InfectionResearch (DZIF).
In the newly established HUMAN program, wecooperate with our regional university partners, the TechnischeUniversität Braunschweig, the Hannover Medical School (MHH) and theUniversity of Veterinary Medicine Hannover.
For the newlyestablished HUMAN program, we seek exceptional professionals tojoin us on our journey to understand the complex interplay ofhumans and microbes in the fight against infectious diseases.
Weare recruiting early-career researchers to develop independentresearch programs committed to research excellence, translation, and EDI (equity, diversity, inclusion).
The program offerspositions for a wide talent pool of Foundational Researchers andClinician-Scientists in : Pioneering foundational infection researchto set news paradigms in the understanding of human health andinfection resilience affected by immunity, microbial colonization, cell biology across scales, age, socio-environmental determinants, behavioral factors, medication, vaccinations, or genetic andepigenetic factors.
Technology-oriented research to develop anddeploy transformative technologies enabling measurements and / orperturbations of physiological and disease processes of humantissues and microbial entities.
To use microbial effector andresilience mechanisms shaped by millions of years of microbialevolution as blueprint for engineering human and planetary health.
Clinical research with a focus on infection biology to tacklepatient-oriented questions and pioneer solutions for humaninfection resilience and health of tomorrow.
Research andtechnology areas of particular interest include, but are notlimited to, microbiology, phages, virology, immunology, vaccinology, AI and systems biology, spatial OMICS, drug research, digital epidemiology, precision infection medicine, RNA-biology,human tissue engineering, One Health research, or synthetic viraland bacterial engineering.
Hypothesis-driven, clinical andfoundational research as well as the development of breakthroughtechnologies are welcome to enable interdisciplinary andtransformative scientific discoveries.

The program is based on an integrativeapproach that applies novel technologies, systems biology, medical / life sciences and informatics to understand, predict andtherapeutically influence the mechanisms underlying health anddisease.
The HUMAN program is linked to and benefits from theBMBF-funded Microbial Stargazing (MICROSTAR) program. MICROSTARfocuses on microbes, their effector mechanisms and their adaptationstrategies in competition with other organisms.
Together,HUMAN-MICROSTAR applies a holistic and comprehensive approach thathas the potential to provide groundbreaking insights and newsolutions for human health in the context of its microbialenvironment.
