A wave of innovation is bringing sweeping changes to EC2 services with new virtualization capabilities, deep platform integrations, and unimaginable scale revolutionizing traditional thinking around how we run enterprise workloads in the cloud. We are looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer to build new capabilities to help customers run SAP workloads on AWS. The EC2 Commercial Services team defines and builds integrations with external software applications running in cloud environments and interoperability between external and internal billing services, to support the growth and expansion of a unique product offering for AWS. Our team is expanding and continuing to build new capabilities for our customers migrating and running SAP workloads on AWS. Your SAP domain expertise and ABAP coding skills are essential to making a significant impact in this role.

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS. Within AWS UC, Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) roles engage with AWS customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

Key job responsibilities

As a senior SDE, you'll work alongside outstanding builders, principle engineers, and business leaders to create new capabilities that provide enhanced experience for our customers, influence product strategy, define system architecture and technical roadmaps, spearhead best practices and be a leader in the design and delivery of new products that'll shape the future of the cloud. All team members actively participate in product definition, technical architecture reviews, iterative development, code review, and operations. Along with this, you’ll have the opportunity to interact with customers to understand and ensure their needs are met. Clear, professional, verbal and written communication with teammates and customers is an important part of the job.

You will be inventing the foundation for the next phase of the products and beyond. A commitment to teamwork, hustle, and strong communication skills (to both business and technical partners) are absolute requirements. Creating a reliable, scalable, and high-performance service requires exceptional technical expertise, a sound understanding of the fundamentals of Computer Science, and practical experience building large-scale distributed systems.

This position involves on-call responsibilities. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that we don’t get paged for the same issue twice.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
• Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence
