DevOps Engineer (f/m/x)
D4L data4life gGmbHPotsdam, Brandenburg, DEHi there!
Are you eager to learn new things and implement your own ideas while working with an international and passionate team of professionals?
At Data4Life, we empower researchers and public-health partners by building secure, compliant, and high-impact digital solutions. As we expand our Health Evidence solutions and researcher-focused developer tooling—we seek a DevOps Engineer with strong Infrastructure as Code development skills and cloud infrastructure experience.
You will work closely with engineering, researcher, project, and product teams to build, integrate, and evolve our Kubernetes-based Application Tier that enables advancing medical and public-health research and translation applications.
We are looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our Research Enablement team. This is a full time position located in Berlin/Potsdam, with a possibility for hybrid work.
Your future role
Work in a collaborative and supportive manner with engineers and researchers to enable smooth deployments, handovers, and operational reliability.
Take ownership of our Kubernetes-based Application Tier and drive its evolution across Azure and hybrid environments.
Design, build, and maintain scalable cloud-native infrastructure using Terraform, Helm, and GitHub Actions.
Improve and automate platform workflows, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and secrets management to empower internal and external developers.
Help shape the long-term cloud architecture for research workloads, including scale-out strategies, secure data paths, and HPC integrations.
Proactively explore and evaluate new technologies that support research computing, high-performance, and reproducible system design.
Contribute to architectural discussions, documentation, and cross-team decision making around networking, IAM, security boundaries, and service architecture.
What you need to succeed
You have experience developing and operating Kubernetes-based systems - ideally in managed environments like AKS, EKS, or GKE.
You have experience with at least one modern programming language - with a willingness to learn Go, and shell scripting for Linux systems.
You have hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, especially Terraform, plus familiarity with Helm, GitHub Actions, and GitHub runners.
Strong understanding of cloud networking (VNet/VPC design, private endpoints, DNS, ingress controllers, TLS, routing).
You are familiar with Docker, containerized workloads, PostgreSQL, object storage, and monitoring/observability stacks (Prometheus/Grafana or ELK).
You are a team player and motivated to explore and evaluate new technologies.
Strong communication skills in English (at least C1).
You are comfortable working in research-driven and experimental environments.
Why you will love working with us
- High level of personal responsibility and creative freedom
- Work on socially impactful projects in the healthcare sector
- Collaboration with leading partners from research, technology, and healthcare
- A diverse, interdisciplinary, and international team working across three locations (Potsdam, Berlin, and Singapore)
- Flexible working models with the option to work from home
- Permanent employment contract with 30 days of vacation
- Attractive employee benefits, e.g. private supplementary health insurance, public transport ticket
Good to know
We especially welcome applicants from the LGBTQI+ community, people with a migration background, people of color, and individuals with disabilities or chronic illnesses to the team.
If you need support or special assistance during the application or interview process due to a disability, please feel free to let us know and we are happy to accommodate you as much as possible.
This position offers an unlimited contract.
In this position you will be working from our Berlin/Potsdam office.
Occasional travel to customer and partner locations is required annually.
- Please enclose your complete documents (CV, letter of motivation, Git portfolio, salary expectations and earliest possible starting date) with your application.
