Position Description
The Head of Trade Compliance is responsible for ensuring that all international trade activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies. The individual will oversee a team and work closely with various departments to develop, implement, and maintain effective trade compliance programs.
Key Responsibilities :
Regulatory Compliance : Stay abreast of evolving trade regulations, sanctions, embargoes, and export controls across different jurisdictions. Interpret and communicate regulatory requirements to relevant stakeholders within the company.
Policy Development : Develop and enforce company-wide trade compliance policies and procedures to ensure adherence to legal requirements. Implement processes for screening, classification, and licensing of goods and technology.
Risk Assessment : Conduct regular assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks related to trade compliance. Proactively address compliance issues and develop strategies to minimize exposure to penalties and legal liabilities.
Training and Awareness : Provide training and guidance to employees involved in international trade activities. Foster a culture of compliance through ongoing education and awareness initiatives.
Internal Collaboration : Collaborate with cross-functional teams including legal, finance, supply chain, and logistics to integrate compliance considerations into business operations. Act as a subject matter expert on trade compliance matters.
External Relationships : Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, trade associations, and industry peers to stay informed about regulatory changes and best practices. Represent the company in discussions with regulatory authorities when necessary.
Audits and Investigations : Coordinate internal audits and investigations to ensure compliance with trade laws and regulations. Address findings and implement corrective actions as needed.
Global Team Leadership : Lead and manage an international team of trade compliance professionals, fostering their development and ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Provide direction, support, and resources necessary for the team's success.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Law, International Relations, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certification in trade compliance is preferred.
- Extensive experience in trade compliance roles within multinational corporations, with a focus on import / export regulations, sanctions, and export controls.
- Strong knowledge of international trade laws and regulations, including but not limited to ITAR, EAR, OFAC, and customs regulations.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing trade compliance programs that effectively manage risk and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a demonstrated ability to anticipate and address emerging trade compliance issues.
- Leadership experience, including managing teams and driving cross-functional collaboration initiatives.
