Key responsibilities

In this role, you will focus on ABB’s Process Automation System vision and support industries and customers in modernizing their distributed control systems, including ABB Ability™ System 800xA, Symphony™ Plus and ABB Ability™ Edgenius.

You will be part of a globally operating team of specialists that supports ABB’s front-end organizations in delivering modular, cyber-secure, and future-ready automation solutions.

As a Product Specialist, you will collaborate closely with Product Management, R&D, and other subject matter experts to combine technical expertise with a strong focus on customer solutions and the functional development of our products.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Support ABB’s front-end organizations in using ABB’s Automation Systems, with a focus on the DCS systems ABB Ability™ System 800xA and Symphony™ Plus, ABB Ability™ Edgenius , and lifecycle services.

• Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues, including evaluating problem descriptions, analyzing log files, and performing remote diagnostics in the installed base.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product Management, Product Development, and ABB front-end organizations, to address complex technical issues and improve products.

• Build and maintain a technical infrastructure that supports you and the global team in developing and testing solutions, as well as reproducing product issues.

• Build and maintain technical competence in ABB’s DCS product portfolio.

• Contribute to competence development for local and global support teams.

Qualifications for the role

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

• Experience in process automation, industrial communication (OPC, PROFIBUS, PROFINET, Modbus TCP) is required. Knowledge of ABB DCS products such as ABB Ability™ System 800xA and Symphony™ Plus would be beneficial

• Exposure to cybersecurity solutions, virtualization, and edge/cloud technologies

• High level of self-motivation, curiosity, and a strong willingness to learn about new technologies

• Ability to demonstrate ownership, apply a problem-solving and solution-oriented mindset, and communicate effectively

• Negotiation-level English and fluent German, both written and spoken

• Willingness to travel up to 5%
