Höchstleistungsrechenzentrum Stuttgart (HLRS)Stuttgart, GermanyThe High-Performance Computing Centre Stuttgart(HLRS) was founded as Germany's first federal high-performancecomputing (HPC) centre. It operates one of the fastestsupercomputers in the world. It offers various HPC solutions andservices for universities, research institutions, and industry.Furthermore, HLRS is a worldwide leader in engineering and globalsystem sciences. Staff scientists at HLRS investigate emergingtechnologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing, and Quantum Computing (QC) towards realising hybrid workflows andlowering the hurdle for non-experts using HPC technologies. In thiscontext, HLRS is significantly involved in international andnational research projects across the abovementioned researchareas.
As part of this effort, HLRS coordinates theFFplus project, a European initiative designed to drive theadoption of High-Performance Computing (HPC) by SMEs and start-upsacross Europe.
Driving SME and StartupInnovation through HPC and Generative AI
FFplus aims to highlight and promote the adoption ofHigh-Performance Computing (HPC) by SMEs and start-ups acrossEurope. This will enable them to solve business challenges throughcomputational methods and leverage supercomputing resources todevelop generative AI solutions. More specifically, FFplus supportsEuropean SMEs and start-ups through six Open Calls during theproject's duration (2024-2028). These calls fund businessexperiments that help companies integrate HPC into their workflowsfor the first time and innovation studies for SMEs already engagedin generative AI but requiring large-scale computational resourcesto scale up (e.g., available and future EuroHPC JU supercomputerssuch as LUMI or HammerHAI). FFplus fosters industrial innovationand strengthens European competitiveness in AI and HPC by offeringdirect funding and technical support.
Building onprevious Fortissimo projects, FFplus continues the mission ofovercoming barriers to HPC adoption by SMEs. European companieswill access state-of-the-art computing capabilities through thisinitiative, helping them innovate, optimize processes, and createcutting-edge AI-driven products and services. HLRS, as thecoordinator of FFplus, is seeking a highly motivated individual tojoin our team and contribute to this exciting initiative at theintersection of AI and HPC.
