About the team and the role :

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer - Backend (d / f / m) who will be part of a team leveraging AI to remove prohibited, restricted, and counterfeit listings from eBay. You will lead the development of modern Python and Spring Boot / Java web applications by developing system designs, helping to define the technical roadmap, steering the team on all technical aspects, and implementing code.

What you will accomplish :

Help the more junior team members by mentoring and guiding them, drive architectural decisions, align technical decisions with the broader organization, and evolve the roadmap to meet anticipated future requirements.

Understand requirements of new products and translate these requirements into a scalable software architecture.

Implement Python and Java / Spring Boot based back-end web services.

Assure delivery of high-quality software by setting up robust CI / CD pipelines, designing and writing tests, contributing to code reviews and code debugging, and by writing documentation.

Own major projects and features from design phase to coding, testing, deployment and support.

Become a domain expert of the highly complex ecosystem of compliance and payments within eBay.

What you will bring :

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or similar technical degree, with 8 years of experience designing and developing highly scalable web applications.

In-depth experience in translating requirements into scalable and future-proof software architectures. Broad knowledge of design patterns and technologies used in designing web applications.

Proficiency and hands-on experiences in back-end development of RESTful web services using Python, Java / Spring Boot and optionally GoLang.

Working knowledge of tools such as Jira, Git is required.

Familiar with writing unit tests with mocking and with DevOps practices (ideally in GCP)
