At the Fraunhofer IPT in Aachen, we work with more than 530 employees every day to make the production of the future more digital, more flexible and more sustainable.

In the department production quality , we deal with the optimization of quality in production by applying methods from Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to predict the product quality, optimize process parameters or enable predictive maintenance.

Within the scope of your thesis, you will investigate the design of management systems for AI in production. Due to emerging standards and regulation mainly the ISO / IEC 42001 and the European Union’s AI Act setting up management systems to holistically manage AI applications in production becomes a crucial task to fully exploit AI’s potential.

Here you partly work on your tasks on site in our institute or from home.

What you will do

  • Research what management systems are and how AI management systems can help to solve current challenges for AI in production
  • Analysis of current regulation (e.g., ISO / IEC 42001 and the European Union’s AI Act) to identify requirements for management systems
  • Evaluate existing methods and create new methods for the implementation of AI management systems
  • Implement an AI management system for real life use cases from production

What you bring to the table

  • You are studying mechanical engineering, computer science, business administration or a comparable subject
  • First experience with AI or ML is advantageous
  • A high degree of initiative and motivation
  • Very good language skills in English
