Current INTERNAL Local National Employees throughout Germany. This covers all current Local National employees of the U.S.
Forces in Germany, including U.S. Air Force and AAFES-Europe within Germany.
Hauptaufgaben
Employee is assigned to the Fire Protection Division of a Directorate Emergency Services (DES). The Division services main post and several remote sites.
The Division is composed of a fire prevention branch, a fire-reporting center, and geographically separated fire companies each having one firefighting crew on duty per shift.
In total, the Division employs approximately personnel. Employee provides immediate direction of the operations of the Fire Station and carrying out the police and instructions of the Chief.
In the capacity of Station Chief, is normally in immediate charge of firefighting and fire prevention at one of the two stations of the Division during one shift.

Minimum Basic Requirements : Applicants for this position must have E&T Level I (completed lower secondary school / Hauptschulabschluss) PLUS German certification as basic fire fighter (abgeschlossene Feuerwehrgrundausbildung, gemaess Feuerwehrdienstvorschrift 2 (FwDV2).
In addition, applicants must possess and maintain German certification as basic fire fighter (abgeschlossene Feuerwehrgrundausbildung, gemaess Feuerwehrdienstvorschrift 2 (FwDV2)).
PLUS 3 years of specialized experience as defined below. Substitution through higher level education for experience is not applicable.
PLUS completed training in accordance with the guidelines of the US Forces Fire Prevention Program.
Specialized Experience : is experience as an active and regular member of an organized city or volunteer fire department using motorized equipment or as a firefighter in a military or industrial establishment or in a comparable plant or institution using motorized equipment.
Experience in a voluntary fire department must include regular attendance at training and instruction. Experience gained in inspecting for and detecting, controlling, and eliminating fire hazards;
applying fire regulations and fire codes; writing descriptions of violations and corrective recommendations; and speaking to groups on fire prevention.
Qualification determinations will be made upon review of the employee's quality of experience indicating the required skills, abilities, and the demonstrated level of responsibility to be able to work successfully the duties of the position.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS :
- Incumbent must possess and maintain host nation equivalent National Emergency Medical Technician (NEMT) certification.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD certification as Firefighter I & II, Driver Operator Pumper, DOD HAZMAT operations, Host Nation SCBA certification (Ausbildung zum Atemschutzgeraetetraeger gem.
FwDV 2), radio communicator training (Ausbildung zum Sprechfunker gem. FwDV2).
Must be able to obtain valid host Nation certification to service and recharge fire extinguishers.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :
Employee is required to successfully complete additional classes, required by changed Host Nation or DoD regulations and laws to continue performing assigned tasks.
This may also include certification classes to maintain and operate newly acquired equipment.
Employee may be subject to periodic (e.g. annual) medical examinations following appointment to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position.
Employee is required to participate in a physical fitness program as described by DOD standards.
Heavy physical effort is required in the frequent handling of objects such as cylinders and extinguishers weighing 45 lbs or more.
Employee may be required to lift / carry personnel in emergency situations.
- Duties require full use of both arms, both legs, and fingers to bend, turn, pull, crawl, kneel, and climb for such tasks as use of aerial ladders, firefighting equipment controls, arranging / connecting hoses, rappelling, operation of fire truck and all types of rescue operations, etc.
- During rescue operations, incumbent may come into contact with human blood or other potential infectious materials which may result in possible exposure to blood borne pathogens.
- Employee must remain clean-shaven to ensure integrity of mask fit for breathing apparatus.
- The position requires successful completion of a pre-employment medical examination (G-26), and periodic examinations thereafter.
The employing organization together with medical authorities will determine the type(s) of examination(s) required, giving due consideration to examination requirements stipulated in German labor law.
NFPA FF I &II, NFPA Fire Officer I, obtain NFPA Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Incident Safety Officer within the first year.
- Applicant must be in the possession of a valid driver's license class B & C.
- German driver's license class CE desired.
- Physical Exam G26.3, G25, G41, G37, G20, FEV / HepB
LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY LEVEL :
English AND German Language Proficiency level C1 required.

- The incumbent of this position is occasionally required to perform TDY (Temporary Duty Travel).
- Working on weekends and holidays as well as rotating shift work (3 shifts, one must be at night) required.
- Employee must be able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs.
