Vantage is looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to be part of our Design & Engineering team, steering innovative design and engineering solutions for our data center projects.
In this multifaceted role, you’ll manage the design development process, collaborating with the broader design team, our construction management, and equipment procurement teams.
Tasked with engineering challenges, you will lead investigations using diverse tools and resources to identify the best solutions for the business.
A comprehensive understanding of all facets of mechanical engineering, including critical cooling systems, chillers, CRAHs and data center distribution topologies, is essential.
Essential Job Functions
Investigate new technologies, solutions, and develop business cases for implementation.
Lead all aspects of mechanical design and engineering including conceptual design, basis of design, scope of work, development of construction documents
Management of external mechanical engineering partners
Drive project-level tasks and milestones
Subject matter expert responsible for technical reviews including designs, submittals, RFIs and engineering studies / assessments against business needs
Visit job sites for field investigations and coordination meetings
Interface and manage mechanical design and design-build contractors on a per-project basis
Report on weekly basis to the Vantage leadership on design progress, blockers, risks and assignment of priorities
Duties
Develop and review project specifications, schematic drawings, design documents, submittals, and commissioning scripts
Perform engineering analyses for cooling loads, hydraulic calculations, CFD and sprinkler system
Review sequence of operations for all mechanical systems
Coordinate with internal engineering teams across all disciplines to ensure products delivered to Operations are streamlined and optimized to meet the needs of the business across all functions
Attend and review documentation for the mechanical part of the commissioning efforts of each project
Support Sales during tours, RFP response, both standard and bespoke solutions, and customer meetings
Coach and help develop the career path for junior mechanical engineers
Attend design meetings and ensure engineering standards and specifications are met in construction
Conduct value engineering analysis, and provide system recommendations based on ROI and IRR analysis
Review and provide feedback on project plans and participate in gating approvals
Collaborate with internal engineering teams for optimised and streamlined product delivery
Attend on-site job walks and meetings for hands-on project engagement
Assist Site Operations in troubleshooting and tuning existing systems
Execute additional tasks as directed by management
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited university or college, with substantial experience in electrical design and construction
Possess 10 years of experience in mechanical systems design and / or construction required
Data center and / or mission critical experience required
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD and CFD modelling software.
Proficient in critical cooling infrastructure, fire protection, ventilation & plumbing infrastructure within a data center
Working knowledge of fire protection, ventilation & plumbing infrastructure within a data center preferred
Working knowledge of building codes and ordinances, including ASHRAE and the EU Code of Conduct on Data Centre Energy Efficiency
National and international travel required is expected to be 20 to 25%, but may increase over time as the business evolves
