Process Engineer (Formation & Aging)
My client continues to expand its capabilities and global presence, it is seeking a Senior Process Engineer (Formation) who will play a critical role in shaping the future of battery cell formation processes.
This key position is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing processes with a focus on quality, efficiency, and safety.
The role will be instrumental in driving the mission of redefining battery manufacturing and ensuring the organization remains at the forefront of technological advancements and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities :
Process Design : Work with cross-functional teams to design and develop battery cell formation processes, including the selection and layout of equipment.
Continuous Improvement : Identify and implement opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency gains by utilizing best practices and innovative solutions.
Data Analysis : Monitor performance metrics, analyze process data, and use insights to improve battery formation processes.
Quality Assurance : Ensure that formation processes adhere to stringent quality standards and regulatory requirements through the implementation of quality control measures.
Safety Compliance : Uphold a strong commitment to safety, ensuring that all formation processes are in line with relevant safety regulations and protocols.
Equipment Evaluation : Evaluate, select, and supervise the installation of equipment and technology solutions specific to battery cell formation.
Process Documentation : Create and maintain detailed process documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and reports (such as root cause analysis and 8D reports).
Training : Provide training and support to production personnel on new processes and procedures to ensure effective implementation.
Root Cause Analysis : Conduct root cause analyses and troubleshoot issues to improve process reliability and performance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration : Collaborate closely with engineering, quality assurance, and production teams to meet process improvement objectives.
Required Skills and Experience :
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electro-Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in battery formation processes.
- Proficiency in charging protocol development, equipment design, and a strong understanding of factory integration and automated systems.
- Experience in design of experiments (DOE) and statistical process control (SPC), with the ability to optimize and qualify processes using data-driven insights.
- Proven experience in scaling processes from pilot to large-scale production.
- Comprehensive understanding of the entire battery production process, from mixing to validation.
- Knowledge of formation fundamentals, including ion diffusivity, charge transfer kinetics, thermal dynamics within cells, and practical engineering applications.
Specific Skills and Personal Attributes :
- Expertise in drafting operational standards, geometric dimensioning, and tolerancing.
- Strong knowledge of equipment design, process documentation (RFI / RFP / RFQ), and experience with release procedures (FAT / SAT) and commissioning.
- Familiarity with quality systems and tools, including PFMEA, SPC, IATF16949, 6Sigma, and statistical analysis.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Access, Project) and engineering software such as AutoCAD, CADWorx, Schedule-pro, and other specialized tools.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
