The Power Conversion Technology Laboratory within Huawei’s Nuremberg Research Center is responsible for Advanced Digital Power Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design and Strategic Technology Planning, and plays an important role in the Huawei Digital Power business in the design and development of power converters and control systems for applications such as PV Solar & Battery Energy Storage Field, Data Centers, Electric Vehicle, and Embedded Power Supply.
As an employee, you will be part of the HUAWEI Energy R&D Competence Center in Nuremberg.
Now we are looking for a : Senior Engineer - Battery System Simulation based on advanced Modeling Techniques (m / f / d)
Responsibilities :
- Model and simulate battery energy storage systems BESS consisting of battery packs, power electronics, cooling, safety concept and energy management with consideration of electrical and thermal behavior as well as consideration of aging mechanisms.
- Consider trade-offs between accuracy and computational complexity for battery models used for simulation of entire BESS, in depth system analyses (e.
g. most important stress factors of the different applications, and their impact on lifetime) as well as for developing advanced battery management and energy management algorithms.
- Investigate performance of battery packs and the entire BESS depending on the operating conditions, considering pack-to-pack variations, intrinsic cell-to-cell variations of SOC, capacity, resistance, temperature, swelling and capacity fading rates.
- Simulate a battery pack with some certain faults, such as increased inner resistance or even internal short circuit and investigate the impact on the entire BESS.
- Simulate BESS performance at cold temperatures, considering inconsistencies between surface SOC and average SOC of single cells and the impact on battery pack level.
- Identify the impact of load profiles in various behind-the-meter and front-of-the-meter applications on BESS lifetime.
Requirements :
- You pursue or hold a PhD degree in either energy storage, electrical engineering, control science and engineering, physics, electrochemistry, vehicle engineering or in any related field
- Familiar about the difference between the electrochemical and equivalent circuit model for batteries, have strong programming skill using simulation software such as matlab / simulink or python based tools.
- High-level scientific papers in the fields of battery models, battery application studies or battery / energy management systems
- Have a good relationship with the top research groups in Europe
- Willing to travel internationally (including European countries and China)
- Fluent in written and spoken English (working language). German / Chinese language skills are a plus. Good communication skills and multi-cultural environment adaptability.
