We are currently looking for two competent Linux system administrators (m/f/d) to join our service team in Dresden on a full-time, on-site basis.

Job description

The Linux System Administrator will be part of our dedicated service team providing essential IT support. Our team specializes in providing reliable support and service in the areas of networking, security, storage and Linux-based infrastructure.

Working with colleagues (m/f/d), the Linux System Administrator will have the opportunity to contribute to various tasks according to their background and skill level. This includes developing and configuring networks, implementing firewall and security solutions, working with scale-out storage and providing support to virtualized environments (VMWare, Proxmox, Docker). The tasks also include archiving and backup, identity management (IdM) and automated configuration and update management (Ansible).

In view of the diverse skills within our team, applicants (m/f/d) with different IT backgrounds in system and network administration are very welcome. We do not expect applicants to already have experience with all the technologies listed or to take responsibility for all technologies upon hire.

As our clientele is multinational, we offer support in German and English.

Your tasks

The team works with a variety of technologies. Applicants will be expected to contribute to the following tasks depending on ability and experience.

• Support, implement and maintain general Linux-based infrastructure services as part of a team
• Support, implement and maintain monitoring and security solutions such as firewalls and intrusion detection
• Support, implementation and maintenance of Linux-based scale-out storage and backup systems
• Support, implementation and maintenance of virtualization services such as VMWare, Proxmox and Docker
• Making suggestions for improvements to processes and procedures
• Working closely with scientists (m/f/d) to develop systems and structures to meet their research needs

We provide training and support to help candidates expand their skills and learn more about the technology areas they are interested in.

Your profile

• A university degree or equivalent in an IT-related or scientific field - or a good explanation of why your chosen career path gives you equivalent skills.
• At least 3 years' experience in Linux system administration
• Basic Linux scripting knowledge
• Knowledge and experience in network and IT security
• The work for this position will primarily be carried out on site. You must therefore live in Germany or be willing to relocate to Germany.
• Open-mindedness and a desire to learn about other cultures are an advantage, as our environment is highly international.
• Fluency in German and English with excellent written and spoken communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team

The Linux System Administrator will join our dedicated service team, providing essential IT support. Our team specializes in delivering reliable assistance and services in networking, security, storage, and Linux-based infrastructure.

In collaboration with colleagues, the Linux System Administrator will have the opportunity to contribute to various tasks based on their background and skill level. These include designing and configuring networks, implementing firewall and security solutions, working with scale-out storage, and offering support in virtualized environments (VMWare and Docker). Additionally, responsibilities encompass archiving and backup, identity management (IdM), and automated configuration and update management (Ansible).

Considering the diverse skill set within our team, we welcome applicants from different IT backgrounds in system and network administration. It's not expected that candidates already have experience with all the listed technologies or be responsible for all of them upon hiring.

• Suggest improvements on processes and procedures
• Work closely with scientists to help design systems and structures to meet their research needs

Training and support will be available to help the candidate expand their skill set and learn more about the technology areas they are interested in.

Your Profile

• A university or equivalent degree in an IT related or scientific discipline - or a good explanation why the career path you've chosen gives you equivalent skills.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in Linux system administration
• Basic Linux scripting knowledge
• Networking and IT security knowledge and experience
• Must be living in or willing to relocate to Germany. Open-mindedness and a desire to experience other cultures is a definite bonus as our environment is heavily international.
• Must be fluent in German and English and have excellent communication skills both verbal and written
• Ability to work in a team
