In Group Research & Development (R&D) at Mercedes Benz Cars, you will shape the automotive generation of the future and work on the latest innovations.

In the RD / KII department (Body Interior Systems & Project Management), we are responsible for the development of future interior systems and thus make a significant contribution to the vehicle DNA.

Our Steering Wheel, Driver Airbag and Roof Control Unit team is responsible for the preliminary and series development of future steering wheel and roof control unit systems.

Steer-by-wire technology and automated driving are creating completely new design possibilities for the steering wheel of the future.

We are looking for you to join our steering wheel team. You will work with us in an extremely exciting and complex environment with a variety of specialist areas such as design, safety, electrics / electronics, ergonomics, UI / UX as well as overall vehicle and series project organization.

These are some of the challenges you will face :

• Researching the state of the art in die casting and 3D printing light metals
• Analyzing the current development process and familiarizing yourself with previous work
• Optimization of selected 3D printing materials and manufacturing processes forCyclic stresses via planning and execution of endurance load testsNVH performance (comparability of die casting to 3D printing)Different strain rates (strain rates)
• Project management between the specialist departments of production technology, component development and CAE simulation as well as external partners
• Development of a procedure to simulate die casting defects / weaknesses in 3D printing in order to achieve a performance approximation for the defined load cases
• Development of a process to reduce the specific surface effects of 3D printing
• Planning and execution of tests on material samples and defined components, comparison with CAE simulations
• Development and commissioning of extended tests for CAE material cards for highly dynamic load cases (body block, ..)
• Investigation of hybrid structures by integrating steel components (inserts) into 3D printed structures
• Evaluation of the use of 3D printing compared to sand casting as a replacement for light metal die casting
• Derivation of measures for the (pre-)development process
• Professional documentation and presentation of the results

The final topic is determined in consultation with the university, you and us.

Qualifikationen

• Degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, mechatronics, automotive engineering, electrical / electronic engineering or a comparable field of study
• Initial experience in project management is an advantage
• Initial experience in component development is an advantage
• MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Willingness to familiarize yourself with a wide range of topics in mechanics, EE, software
• Experience with gaming and / or simulation software an advantage
• CAD experience (NX, CATIA, ...) an advantage
