The candidate should demonstrate exceptional proficiency and academic achievements in data computer science, coupled with a strong understanding of machine learning and / or expertise in domains related to extensive health data, such as genomics and imaging data analysis.

Desired skills also encompass familiarity with scientific programming, data computation, statistical analysis, as well as a grasp of mathematical methods and numerical analysis.

Candidates will be tasked with tackling machine learning challenges and data science computing assignments as part of the selection process.

A successful candidate will have an opportunity to join various projects, among others to German National Research Data Infrastructure for Personal Health Data (NFDI4Health) and 'Better real-world health-data distributed analytics research platform' (BETTER) projects.

The BETTER project is developed under the Horizon Europe Tools and Health (HORIZON-HLTH-2023-TOOL-05) framework. Within BETTER project, a succesful candidate will engage in evidence-based research focusing on Paediatric Intellectual Disability, Inherited Retinal Dystrophies, and Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Furthermore, the project will explore, research, and validate innovative digital tools, technologies, and methodologies within these medical areas, applied in real-world data contexts.

During this project your responsibilities could range among various tasks : Implement novel machine learning and AI methods and improve health and well-being by translating AI into the healthcare practice Contribute to the development of a research agenda for the digital transformation of healthcare services and infrastructure Develop innovative technologies in collaboration with international partners from Horizon projects, and from research data infrastructures such as the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII), and the National Research DataInfrastructure (NFDI) Closely collaborate with Uniklinik Köln clinics and help them to discover new insights from data Support data reusability, big data management for research, and multimodal data integration Actively take part in developing an interdisciplinary teaching curriculum for medical data scientists and develop new modules both for medical and informatics students Support the acquisition of new projects in the field of medical data science Collaborate with the other Ph.
