For our institute for SoftwareTechnology in Braunschweig we are looking for Student computerscience or similar (f / m / x), Study of Distributed SpacecraftSoftware Architectures ## Das erwartet Sie : The German AerospaceAgency (DLR) is developing the Scalable On-board Computing forSpace Avionics (ScOSA) as a hybrid distributed computingarchitecture that provides high performance on-board processingwhile maintaining high reliability compared to traditional on-boardcomputing approaches.

A next step for this type of distributedon-board software is the management of autonomous distributed spacesystem architectures such as : distributed spacecraft, fractionatedsatellites, or satellite constellations.

The design of adaptivemanagement algorithms is key to enable inter-satellitecollaboration and opportunistic resources reutilization, whilestill providing mechanisms for autonomous spacecraft operations.

Furthermore, these algorithms should take into account distributedspacecraft limitations such as network disruptions, limited networkcapacity, network reconfiguration due to failed or reintegratednodes.

Therefore, the goal of this thesis work is to studydistributed spacecraft flight software architectures, such as theLocal-Global policy, using network simulation tools (e.

g. Mininet)to study their performance under different system topologies, andto study their applicability to the evolution of the ScOSAarchitecture.

The thesis work includes the following tasks : -review the state of the art in software architectures fordistributed space systems - evaluate the suitability of theselected software architectures for different distributed spacesystem topologies - implement or adapt the selected softwarearchitecture into the ScOSA middleware - define metrics andevaluate the performance of the selected distributed spacecraftsoftware architecture under different system topologies and networkconfigurations ## Das erwarten wir von Ihnen : - Master's student incomputer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, ora related field - interest in distributed systems, autonomoussystems, or computer networks - experience with GNU / Linux, C++, andPython - experience with computer networks and autonomous system isan advantage.
