The research group “Clinical Dementia Research” (Prof. Dr. Stefan Teipel) works on the methodological development and validation of innovative methods to improve dementia diagnostics, the monitoring of disease progression, and the determination of intervention effects. In previous projects, such as “EXPLAINATION”, we developed explainable artificial intelligence (XAI)-based assistance tools to support the diagnosis of dementia. In the upcoming project “BehAIve : Behaviour Monitoring and Support of Older Adults”, funded by the Ministry of Science, Culture, Federal and European Affairs of the State Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, we will further extend our explainable AI toolbox to integrate multimodal motion and environment sensor data. More specifically, we will focus on computational modelling approaches to ensure the comprehensibility and explainability of a smart living control system that provides situation-adaptive support to geriatric patients and people with mild cognitive impairment in performing everyday activities.
