Learning Commons Specialist - Accounting

: The TCC William D. Law Learning Commons is seeking an Accounting Specialist to join our team! The Learning Commons Specialist (Accounting) is primarily responsible for instructing/providing learning assistance and tutoring support to individual students and groups and working with faculty across divisions to develop programs, resources, materials and projects.Instructing/providing learning assistance to individual students and groups.
Working with faculty across divisions to develop programs, resources, materials and projects.
Conducting class visits, orientations, and tours for classes and other groups.
Serving on Learning Commons committees and other campus committees.
Mentoring OPS tutors and participating in the tutor training process.
Providing academic support services to a specified population of students such as Veterans, STEM, online, dual enrollment, athletes, etc.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a discipline related to the assigned area of responsibility including but not limited to Accounting or Business Administration. Also requires two years of experience in learning assistance, tutoring, and/or teaching.
SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING: Strong knowledge of Accounting skills such as basic math through college algebra. Knowledge of best practices in Learning Assistance/ Education. Knowledge of components of TCC's courses across the curriculum. Knowledge of word processing programs, web site functions, online student record-keeping, online tutoring and computer assisted Learning programs. Knowledge of techniques to teach/tutor a diverse community of students. Skill in assessing Learning needs and recommending individual Learning plans (online tutoring, small group tutoring, individual tutoring, self-help materials, computer-assisted Learning, etc.) Skill in designing effective instructional materials. Skill in developing presentations to groups of faculty members and students. Skill in communicating effectively with faculty across disciplines to design programs for planned use of the Learning center. Skill in using online student record-keeping systems. Skill in working with distance Learning students. Skill in working with students using computer-assisted Learning resources. Ability to critically read and critique students' work at varying levels, identify problems, and implement strategies to correct deficiencies. Ability to independently develop, plan for and/or conduct Learning skills workshops for students. Ability to coordinate with faculty to organize and implement tutoring and resources for biological sciences. Ability to develop and implement a range of tutorial services at varying levels which serve the needs of a diverse student population. Ability to express oneself clearly, correctly, and effectively in spoken and written standard English. Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues in the commons and to work independently. Ability to provide support and oversight of part-time employees in absence of the Coordinator. Ability to assist students with online homework programs and multimedia presentations. Ability to participate in and contribute to ongoing professional development.
