Currently, the new FAIR ( F acility for A ntiproton and I on R esearch) one of the world's largest research projects, is under construction through international cooperation. Research Scientist (PhD) (all genders) in Theoretical Nuclear Astrophysics

Position overview and research environment :
The successful candidate is expected to perform an independent research program within the GSI Nuclear Astrophysics and Nuclear Structure Department. This program should strengthen the present activities in the Department, while fostering collaborations with scientists at GSI / FAIR and at nearby universities. Involvement is expected in the research programs at FAIR, such as those conducted by the NUSTAR collaboration.
Required qualifications :
The successful candidate should have an established research record in theoretical nuclear astrophysics with the following qualifications :
- Doctoral degree (PhD) in theoretical nuclear astrophysics or equivalent
- At least five years of postdoctoral experience
- Experience in hydrodynamic modelling of neutron star mergers and / or supernovae of relevance for heavy element nucleosynthesis
- Experience in high performance radiation transport simulations including neutrinos and / or photons
- Strong interest in connecting experimental advances with astronomical observations
- Excellent communications skills and ability to work in team.
