The mission of the Thieme Group is to provide these markets with precisely the information, services, and products they need in their specific work situation and career.Department : Thieme ScienceStart :  for the next possible dateContract duration : unlimitedWorking hours : full timeResponsibilitiesPortfolio management : Developing and implementing the business strategy for a portfolio of journals including journal launch, development and acquisition plans.Journal development : Manage and grow a key publishing program (open access and hybrid) by defining journal development plans aligned with our Thieme Science strategy. Setting and adjusting quality and scope of the journals strategically in line with market development.Team lead : Demonstrating skills in team management : such as communication, people development, managing change, time management and conflict resolution.Quality and improvement : Continuous quality management and improvement on journal level regarding decisions on resources and service standards. Maintain publishing quality, ethics and standards including, but not limited to research integrity and policies.Performance management : Ensure that KPIs are regularly monitored, reported and met, and that action is taken as needed. Take a data led approach to portfolio management and development in line with the Thieme Science strategic objectives.Networking, research community : Developing and expanding a network in our target groups. Building and developing close working relationships with our research communities, like editorial boards, advisory boards or societies. Understanding the trends and changes in communities you serve and adjust your portfolio strategy accordingly.Collaboration : close and coordinated collaboration with colleagues within the international Thieme Science Unit located in Stuttgart, London, New York, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, New Delhi, and Beijing as well as with colleagues in Production, Marketing, Institutional Sales etc. QualificationsPhD or master’s degree preferably in life sciences or medicineMinimum 5 years of experience in the international academic publishing industryA minimum of 3 years proven operational leadership and project management experience5 years plus proven experience managing an international portfolio of scientific journals, including networking with societies and other players.Proven record creating, implementing and improving journal development plans and journal level business strategiesExperience in managing journal portfolios and in transitioning journals into open accessVery good knowledge of all aspects of publishing ethics, editorial policy, procedures, and practiceStrategic thinking and analytical skills plus an entrepreneurial mindsetOutstanding communication skills with stakeholders at all levels in written and spoken English, knowledge of German language would be a bonusExcellent negotiation and influential skillsStrongly collaborative team worker, comfortable with co-ownership of shared goals and with a high level of personal accountabilityAble to undertake national and international travel for conference attendance, site visits and meetingsBusiness experience in an international environment desirable Our OfferWe provide a collaborative and empowering work environmentWe value winning ideas and a proactive attitudeOur Thieme Academy provides individual training opportunitiesYou will work in a reputable and employee-friendly family business that encourages open communicationWe expect a hybrid work setup upon return to our offices; we are open to other arrangements as well Carina HodrußTalent Acquisition Manager
