Senior Payroll Specialist

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for executing routine payroll processing for employees’ payroll, payroll taxes, benefit deductions, and incentive payments for the German employee population while liaising with payroll agents and HR and Payroll colleagues in other Wiley locations.
Primary responsibilities will be working with employee data from Human Resources’ Workday HR management system, and Wiley’s payroll platform and timekeeping system, ensuring the changes are processed accurately and completely for the processing of payroll for approximately 450 employees.
The Payroll Specialist will execute monthly payroll reporting and prepare journal entries and month-end reconciliations to record payroll and related expenses to the General Ledger in the SAP system.
How you will make an impact :
Be responsible for updating payroll with permanent data changed via reporting from the HR system (performing all SOXA checks prior to upload), in addition to all non-permanent data (e.
g. overtime, sickness) and other data (e.g. tax codes, allowances and deductions) from various sources
- You will complete timely payroll accounting in compliance with tax and social security regulations and internal insurance regulations as well as labor / collective bargaining agreement provisions
- Process ELSTAM and EEL procedures
- Handle subsequent payroll processes, such as demand letters, communication with authorities and institutions
- Prepare final payroll checks prior to payroll submission
- Enter and maintain master data in accordance with tax and SI law as well as in accordance with company agreements
- Be responsible for providing pay and payment details to finance and responsible for updating and reconciling year to date payroll figures for HMRC on spreadsheet
- Assist with tax year end preparation and completion
What we look for :
- Have a payroll qualification or by experience
- Have successfully completed commercial training, e.g. payroll specialist (m / f / d), tax assistant (m / f / d), human resources specialist (m / f / d)
- Are experienced with medium to large-volume payroll
- Have professional experience in the field of salary accounting and processing / human resources / salary accounting.
- Have knowledge of payroll legislation, social security law and reporting requirements
- Are experienced with account reconciliation and Finance systems
- Have strong German and English written and spoken communication skills
