Reference No. 2024 / 176. The position is available for 24 months starting in late 2024 or early 2025 (flexible start date).
In principle, this position can be divided into two part-time positions.
The University of Konstanz is one of eleven Universities of Excellence in Germany. Since 2007 it has been successful in the German Excellence Initiative and its follow-up programme, the Excellence Strategy.
The position is assigned to the Chair of American Studies (Prof. Dr. Timo Müller) in the Department of Literature, Art and Media Studies , and is affiliated with the Chair of the History of Knowledge (Prof.
Dr. Anne Kwaschik) in the History Department.
Your Responsibilities
Contribution of expertise on methods of history of knowledge / science to the ERC project Off the Road : The Environmental Aesthetics of Early Automobility (offtheroad.org)
Development of independent research project on environmental knowledge in early twentieth-century North America (e.g., emergence of ecology, automobile field work)
Co-organization of a conference on environmental knowledge
Publication of research results
Minor administrative duties
Your Competencies
A very good doctoral dissertation with a focus on history of knowledge or history of science
Interest in the environmental humanities and North American history
Ability to attend in-person events in Konstanz about once a month
