Job Description

Our custom-built Electric Propulsion System consisting of state-of-the-art battery, power distribution and controlled electric motors are key to making Volocopter’s products extremely safe to fly.

With your specific experience in the development of electrical system for aviation or in integrating electric propulsion components into mobility products, you contribute directly to the certification of this uniquely safe and simple flight experience.

As an integral part of our Energy Storage Unit (ESU) component development team, you ensure that the proper system development processes are followed by the battery and power distribution teams.

Your mission during this flight :

• Battery Verification : Lead and conduct comprehensive verification activities to evaluate the safety, reliability, and performance of battery systems intended for SC-VTOL and E-19 certification.
• Regulatory Compliance : Ensure adherence to the specific requirements outlined by EASA's SC-VTOL and E-19 regulations throughout the battery design, development, and testing processes.
• Testing and Analysis : Develop test verification plans, oversee battery testing, analyze test data, and generate detailed reports on the battery performance, including areas such as energy storage, charging / discharging behavior, thermal management, Electromagnetic Interference, Salt Spray, Fungus, Magnetic effects, and overall safety of the system in its integrated environment.
• Documentation and Reporting : Create and maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all verification activities, test results, and analysis reports, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and guidelines.
• Collaboration and Communication : Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including battery design engineers, system integration engineers, and regulatory experts, to ensure seamless integration and verification of batteries in VTOL aircraft.
• Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external certification authorities to provide updates on verification progress and address any concerns or queries.
• Continuous Improvement : Stay updated with the latest developments in battery technology, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

Identify areas for improvement in verification processes and propose innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

• Specify and support the validation and verification activities of component requirements according to ARP-4754A
• Support system level / component level milestones (, PDR / CDR / TRR)

Qualifications

Check in your professional skills :

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
• You have a background in Battery development and have applied experience with DO-311A.
• Knowledge of certification and development processes and have applied experience with DO-160G.
• Experience in developing and implementing battery testing methodologies, including the design of test plans, data analysis, and interpretation.
• Team player, confident in technical discussions, ability to organize and get things done
• Fluent in English

Preferred skills :

• Basic knowledge of HV and Li-ion batteries, digital communication buses, and / or model-based systems engineering
• Experience with FMEA and FMECA
• Knowledge of ARP4761
• Knowledge of ARP4761
• Knowledge in , UL 1642, MMPDS, DO-178C, DO-254
