Our open and progressive work environment is something to shout about and we are looking for a Professional Support Lawyer (PSL) to join the conversation, and to support the drive for Knowledge Management (KM) to improve client service and to give the firm a competitive advantage, working in conjunction with Marketing and Business Development to support and enhance our client service and interaction.
Key Responsibilities
As a PSL within the KM team you will produce and manage precedents and know how for the firm’s core service lines. You will lead on relevant mandatory professional development activity and ensure that fee earners’ knowledge of the firm’s KM systems and processes is current.
Additional responsibilities include
- Coordinate the preparation of internal and external practice notes and briefings, in conjunction with the Head of KM, Service Line Head, Business Development and Marketing to ensure fee earners and clients are kept up to date with applicable legal and regulatory developments, including research and drafting responsibilities as appropriate
- Manage maintained Know How for the applicable service lines across the Group, with an associated precedent bank, drafting notes, policies and guidance
- Reviewing current procedures and practices with Service Line Partners to improve and standardise transaction processes including facilitation of process mapping of core service line business
- Keep up to date with all relevant service line / jurisdictional, legal, regulatory and case law changes (making changes to client briefings / documents where applicable)
- Prepare and deliver training to all levels of fee earners on KM documents and practices
- Help specify topics for internal training sessions and coordinate internal training sessions and speakers on relevant legal and regulatory matters
- Set up and run informal or formal discussion forums (communities of practice) and seminars related to KM, including to enable the capture of tacit’ knowledge
- Actively contribute to a culture of valuing and leveraging the firm’s knowledge
- Maintain an effective system for the collection of know-how including managing precedent pipelines and developing strong relations with the Partners and fee-earners and assessing and capturing KM content from client transactions
- Delivering precedents of the highest quality to suit all types of client needs / standards
- Provide necessary input on what should be maintained in the library
- Coordinate regular and ad hoc knowhow meetings, prepare agendas, minutes and action lists and follow through on all action items
- Contribute to assessment of fee earner participation and return on investment in respect of KM resources
- Keep under regular review relevant jurisdictional / service line content of the firm’s intranet
- Work in collaboration with the wider PSL / KM Team (pan-jurisdiction) to support an alignment in the KM support model across the Group and provide regular updates to Service Line Head
- Identify, review and prepare documents for automated document assembly
- Liaise with IT department and Service Line Partners to ensure effective implementation and usage of technology resources and tools to enhance knowhow quality, efficiency and availability
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Attorney-at-law / English Solicitor / English Barrister or equivalent qualification from another jurisdiction with c. 3 years’ PQE (ideal but not essential)
- Knowledge of local legislative and regulatory environment
- Experience in private practice and specifically experience of relevant service line
- Experience across multi-jurisdictions preferred
- Good communication skills at all levels
- Excellent technical drafting skills
- Some experience or knowledge of the delivery of knowledge management systems
- Enthusiasm for developing knowledge systems, improving access and understanding amongst the staff
- Responsiveness to the needs of fee-earners where knowledge access is concerned
- Outstanding organisational skills
- Tenacious approach to project management, delivery and follow-up
