In passenger car development, we are responsible for the corrosion protection of the entire vehicle for Mercedes-Benz. Depending on the installation position, the material combinations and the corrosive load, appropriate corrosion protection measures must be developed and defined for each component.
In the development process, the effectiveness of the measures is then checked in field-correlating corrosion tests. These tests are very time-consuming and costly.
We are therefore pursuing the goal of using numerical methods to digitally simulate the influence of corrosion on components and vehicles quickly, efficiently and in a way that correlates with field results.
This is intended to support the development process at a very early stage and also increase the degree of product maturity in the digital product development phase.
The first applications based on machine learning have already been developed. The existing concept now needs to be extended to other use cases.
For this purpose, further essential data must be integrated into the evaluation environment and evaluated on real components and vehicles.
Your tasks include :
- Familiarization with the existing AI models & methods as well as the basics of corrosion on vehicles
- Analysis of further corrosion-relevant parameters with regard to their integration capability into the existing artificial intelligence method
- Extraction, processing and integration of the identified data
- Evaluation of the application on corrosion results of real components and vehicles
The prerequisite for employment is the supervision of the doctoral project by a university lecturer. The doctoral candidate is responsible for selecting an appropriate supervisor.
Qualifikationen
- Completed Master's degree in mathematics, computer science, physics, mechanical engineering or a related field
- Very good programming skills in MATLAB and Python (e.g. Numpy, Pandas, Tensorflow, PyTorch)
- Very good knowledge in the field of artificial intelligence (machine learning, deep learning, time series analysis)
- Ideally basic knowledge of digital geometry representation (STL files)
- Enjoy working on interdisciplinary issues
- Good knowledge of German and English
- Intensive collaboration with related dissertations
