Technical Assistant (m/w/d) in experimental, pediatric tumor research

The Children’s Hospital Augsburg (Swabian Children’s Cancer Center) is looking for a motivated part-time (50%) Technical Assistant (m / w / d) in experimental, pediatric tumor research.

Position limited to two years.

As clinic of the University Hospital Augsburg (UKA), we are part of a rapidly growing academic center. The UKA is a large-scale care provider with 1699 patient beds in 22 clinics and approximately 2800 employees.

Scientifically, the hospital is member of the NCT-WERA cooperation and thus one location of the NCT (national center for tumor diseases).

A specific focus of the Children’s Hospital is the genetic and epigenetic analysis of pediatric tumors : Our hospital hosts the EURHAB study which strives to optimize the treatment of patients with rhabdoid tumors.

Aiming to better understand these tumors, we are applying various, molecular genetic characterization techniques including spatial transcriptomics, single cell sequencing and DNA methylation profiling.

Job describtion

We are looking for a Technical Assistant with a background in molecular biology. Our aim is to decipher the transcriptomic landscape of various paediatric neoplasms, that are characterized by the loss of the tumor suppressive SMARCB1 protein, specifically rhabdoid tumors and epithelioid sarcomas.

The successful applicant will help with FFPE slide preparations for various spatial transcriptomics platforms such as 10X Visium and Nanostring GeoMx.

They will also help optimise fluorescent antibody usage for these techniques. Training will be provided.

Requirements

• Completed scientific or technical education (MTA / BTA)
• Previous experience in basic molecular biology techniques is necessary
• Interest in experimental research and motivation
• Basic experience in data analysis is beneficial but not required
• Ability to collaborate and communicate within interdisciplinary teams (in German and English)
