Job Mission : As a Senior Airframe Design Engineer, you will be leading the design activities for an airframe component / work package such as fuselage section, wing sub-assemblies, flight control surfaces within a multifunctional product development team.
The role is responsible for the planning of the design activities according program milestones to achieve the defined deliverables.
Since the aircraft is a clean sheet design, you will focus on creating design principles according to defined requirements concerning performance, production processes and cost.
The execution of the design work will be within a new digital workflow that enables data usage from all involved functions and over the full product life cycle.
The usage of these digital threads and implementation of a new way of working is a key element of this role. Working cross-functionally, together with partners and supply chain, the role requires active communication and effective preparation of trades studies for early decision-making.
Key objective is to achieve effective design principles and material selection to reach the product requirements but also to support supply chain production capabilities.
It is the responsibility of the Senior Airframe Design Engineer to ensure the development and production processes are converging in agreed means of compliances towards certification phase.
The role is part of the design organization technical delegation to demonstrate compliance of the design for certification.
Tasks
Key Responsibilities :
- Planning and execution of the required design activities according program plan and defined deliverables.
- Establish design concepts and design principles, lead trade studies and prepare design reviews.
- Defining the product structure for the responsible work package according to rules from the digital workflows for effective work execution over the different program phases
- Contribute to the implementation of digitalization and automation of airframe engineering processes, including advanced digital-twin, digital workflows and digitally assisted validation and verification.
- Ensure design manufacturability according to selected supply chain capabilities within defined cost targets.
- Define the design verification road map and required test plan.
- Ensure structural integrity by optimizing weight and performance of the airframe.
- Propose optimizations for both weight improvement and design to cost.
- Ensure design organization check procedures performed and progress monitoring according program requirements to ensure deliverables in time and quality.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and engineering departments to ensure effective structure and systems integration design.
- Leading operatively allocated internal resources or external work packages within the defined perimeter.
Requirements
- Engineering degree (BSc / MSc / MEng) in Aerospace, Aeronautics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Recognized expertise in the field of new airframe design and structure design principles in metal and composite.
- Fundamental understanding in the development process and requirements in the large aircraft category CS25.
- Wide proficiency of airframe requirements, sizing criteria, materials and development methods
- Proficiency in digital tools and software for structure design, simulation and assembly such as Siemens NX with Simcenter or equivalent.
- Experience and knowledge of PLM systems such as Teamcenter or equivalent
- 10 years professional expertise in relevant perimeter of airframe design
- New product development experience of at least one new aircraft program
- Strong project management and communication skills, with the ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to prioritize, manage and execute multiple simultaneous tasks
- Assertive, pro-active, innovative and creative
Benefits
- Competitive salary with 30 paid vacation days.
- Significant impact on the early stages of a pioneering aircraft program.
