Doctoral Student (f/m/d) on Growth and Investigation of Topological Polar Textures in Disordered or Glassy Ferroelectrics on Silicon
Doctoral Student (f / m / d) on Growth and Investigation of Topological Polar Textures in Disordered or Glassy Ferroelectrics on Silicon Reference No.
QM / 16 As a PhD student, you will work in the framework of the ERC Advanced Grant LUCIOLE (Layering, Understanding, Controlling, Integrating Ferroelectric Polar Textures on Silicon) and will develop the synthesis of new materials with the aim to stabilize topological polar textures.
To this end, you will investigate how to use disorder (structural, chemical) and frustration in nanoscale ferroelectric hetero structures and nanostructures.
You will study the different polar textures and their properties when embedded in two-terminal devices. Your Tasks
- Investigation of various synthesis routes to grow nanoscale ferroelectrics with topological polar textures (bottom-up : by molecular beam deposition, top-down : by Ne ion milling)
- Detailed structural characterization (including synchrotron-based methods)
- Investigation of the polar textures in collaboration with our expert microscopist
- Investigation of the ferroelectric / electrical properties (piezoresponse force microscopy, macroscopic electrical measurements)
- Presentation at international conferences and scientific publications Your Profile
- Completed master's degree in chemistry or materials science or physics
- Experience in thin film growth and their analysis methods
- Programming skills in Python are a plus
- Very good written and spoken English
- Excellent teamwork skills Your Benefits at HZB
- Opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative materials and technological solutions for a climate-neutral future in cooperation with leading international researchers
- Commitment to diversity and sustainability through an inclusive working environment, promotion of diversity sensitivity andimplementation of sustainable and climate-neutral methods
- Career-enhancing networking opportunities and individual mentoring and support from theHZB Graduate Centre andHZB Postdoc Office
- Attractive remuneration through payment according to TVöD Bund 30 days holiday / year
- Extensive additional benefits, such as company pension plan (VBL), subsidy for public transport (Deutschlandticket Job) and company sports programmes
- And a team that is looking forward to meeting you! Fixed term contract for 48 months. The salary is based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund).
