Your Role and Your Team
You will report directly to the Team lead Energy Testing and work closely with our Component Testing team.
The Component Testing team is responsible for various disciplines covering component, system and whole aircraft tests. It is set up in three divisions : Testing, Test Management and Test Operations.
Our team runs tests that facilitate certification, development, and research for the technology areas : Propulsion Systems, Batteries, Structures, Environmental Tests and Hardware in the Loop (HIL).
You will serve as the person of contact for all Battery tests and manage the complete process of testing from requirements breakdown & concept development to test execution & data processing by always keeping the goal of qualification and verification of our aircraft components in mind.
You will setup and execute tests of small- and large-scale prototypes and provide valuable input for electrical, thermal, and mechanical battery engineers as well as for production.
Your Day to Day
- Plan and coordinate testing of battery systems, ensuring alignment with stakeholders and integration engineers, particularly in battery development.
- Design test strategies and set up test spaces, focusing on compliance with standards like CS-23, DO-160, and DO-311.
- Oversee documentation processes to support certification, including detailed reporting and analysis to drive certification progress.
- Conduct theoretical analysis of test data, interpreting results to provide critical feedback for design modifications, process improvements, and software bug fixes.
- Develop testing protocols for electrical, thermal, mechanical, and environmental performance, including abuse testing scenarios.
- Manage documentation for test planning, execution, and outcomes to ensure traceability and support certification requirements.
- Collaborate with production planning teams to refine end-of-line test setups based on theoretical findings.
- Engage with BMS systems and test bench software for data analysis and reporting.
Your Profile
- MSc, PhD, or equivalent degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience with battery systems, particularly Li-ion, focusing on analysis, documentation, and compliance with standards .
- Experience in creating and managing requirements specifications using tools like Polarion, IBM DOORS, or Siemens Teamcenter .
- Strong knowledge testing best practices and extensive experience in documentation for certification and homologation processes.
- Experience with battery testing equipment, including high-power supplies, loads, data acquisition systems, BMS functions, CAN systems, and test bench software.
- Ability to build and improve testing structures, processes, and documentation with a strong analytical and solution-driven mindset.
- Fluent English skills required; German or other languages are beneficial.
