Our client, a prominent global leader in shipping and logistics with operations spanning five continents, is seeking a Compliance Manager for their team based in Hamburg.
Responsibilities :
- Ensure export control compliance within company operations.
- Evaluate and advise on the necessary transport licenses for transit, transhipment, import, and export of military, sensitive, and dual-use cargo.
- Conduct risk assessments of current practices related to import, transit, transhipment, and export regulations, ensuring alignment with local laws.
- Manage, administer, and enhance company-wide compliance policies and programs, particularly in areas such as Data Protection, Competition, Embargoes & Sanctions, Whistle-blower Protection, and the German Supply Chain Duty of Care Act.
- Handle compliance issues, including those related to AEO, data protection, and serve as a point of contact for compliance queries concerning AEO, ISO, ISM, and customs.
- Serve as the Data Protection Coordinator, overseeing and coordinating all data protection requirements in accordance with GDPR and acting as the primary contact within the organisation.
- Receive and process notifications of compliance violations.
- Provide guidance to ensure that business units implement the necessary compliance policies, with attention to local regulations.
- Support ongoing investigations as required, including during dawn raids.
- Collaborate closely with business stakeholders to offer advice and guidance on all compliance-related matters.
Requirements :
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business Administration or Legal and Administrative studies.
- A Master’s degree is highly beneficial.
- Certified expertise in the German War Weapons Control Act.
- Certified knowledge of export, transit / transhipment, and import law.
- A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in a similar role, with in-depth knowledge of the shipping industry.
- Proficiency in compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Awareness of sanctions and embargo changes and their implications.
- Strong risk management skills.
- Excellent writing skills, with the ability to document information clearly, concisely, and comprehensively.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English, with proficiency in German and additional European languages being an advantage.
- High level of independence, assertiveness, and the ability to deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
