Machine Learning Engineer - Hamburg (Remote) - Retail

A LLM to enhance retail operations, customer service and personalisation.

The retail industry is rapidly evolving, with customer expectations continuously rising in terms of personalisation, speed, and engagement.

The goal of this project is to develop a custom LLM trained on retail specific data. This LLM will serve as a core AI solution to support retail operations, customer interaction, product recommendations, and internal process optimisation.

The project will focus on building a domain specific model fine tuned to the retail ecosystem, enabling seamless integration with e-commerce platforms, CRM systems, and supply chains.

Key Deliverables

Retail Specific LLM Development

• Fine-tuning an existing foundation model (e.g., OpenAI's GPT, LLaMA) on retail-specific datasets .
• Incorporating publicly available retail data (e.g., product catalogs, reviews, and social media interactions) and proprietary company data.

Multimodal Capabilities (Text & Image)

Training the LLM to process both textual and visual inputs to improve product search and catalog queries (e.g., Find products that look like this with an image input).

Omni-channel Integration

• Deploying the LLM across e-commerce platforms, CRM systems, and chat interfaces (website, mobile apps, and messaging platforms).
• API integration with major platforms (e.g. Shopify, Salesforce, Zendesk) for seamless interaction.

Interactive Chatbot & Employee Assistant

• Building conversational agents that use the LLM to provide personalised customer interactions and assist employees in real-time.
• Ensuring chatbot responses are aligned with brand tone and up-to-date with promotions, product changes, and policies .

Analytics Dashboard

• Developing a dashboard to track key metrics (e.g., chatbot resolution rate, product recommendation conversion rate, customer sentiment) for continuous improvement.
• Providing insights into inventory movement , product demand, and customer behavior trends.
• Provide personalized, 24 / 7 customer support via AI-powered chatbots across multiple channels (website, apps, and social media).
• Enable automatic resolution of common customer queries such as order tracking, returns, and product FAQs.
• Generate personalized product recommendations based on real time browsing and purchase history.
• Utilize the LLM to understand natural language queries for better product search functionality (e.g. I need a dress for a beach wedding ).
• Create an internal assistant for retail employees to access product details, pricing, inventory, and customer profiles quickly.
• Train the LLM to generate relevant email templates, sales reports, and order summaries.
• Automate demand forecasting by analyzing sales trends, customer behavior, and historical data.
• Assist in optimising inventory management by predicting restocking needs and identifying slow moving products.
• Analyze customer reviews and social media comments to extract actionable insights about product performance and customer sentiment.
• Automate survey analysis to identify common customer pain points.

Machine Learning Engineer Application Process This is a contract position with an ASAP start date; CVs are currently being reviewed and interviews will be held within the next 1-2 weeks.

The interview process will consist of 2 stages, and candidates must be available to start within 1 month to be considered.
