A highly successful and innovative company from the IT industry has developed an AI add-on for cat flaps with prey detection, already deployed in over 20,000 households worldwide. Made in Germany, with a true passion for pets and a healthy drive for technical excellence.
The team is now working on its next product: a smart, IoT-connected device in the field of automated pet feeding. Compact mechanics, embedded sensors, 48V drive technology, cloud connectivity – a sophisticated mechatronic system that we want to take from the concept phase to a pilot series of 100 units.
As a Mechatronics Concept Engineer, you will be the key technical person for the hardware development of our new product. You will orchestrate all hardware systems engineering work packages – from the core mechanics through electronics and sensors to camera-based recognition – and will also roll up your sleeves on the mechanical topics yourself.
Apply now and become part of this success story!
Aufgaben
Technical leadership & orchestration
- You own the overall mechatronic system architecture
- You coordinate external engineers (mechanics, electronics) and internal juniors
- You ensure mechanics, electronics, and firmware work together seamlessly
- You make technical decisions and stand behind them
Mechanics & design (hands-on)
- Redesign of core mechanics: kinematics, linear guides, actuation system with 48V drive
- Optimization of gear layouts, reduction of backlash and tolerance stacks
- Development of hygiene-optimized, dishwasher-safe assemblies (food contact)
- Footprint reduction and validation of internal space layout
- Mechanical reliability testing (>1,000 cycles)
Electronics & sensors (orchestration)
- Steering the redesign of the position detection system (magnetic, optical, or mechanical)
- Coordinating PCB adoption and add-on board development (motor control / 48V)
- Guiding the integration of a camera-based recognition system with cloud analysis
Toward pilot production
- Design for manufacturing (DfM) for small-batch production (3D printing / vacuum casting)
- Collaboration with external manufacturing partners
- Support for certification (CE, EMC) and material evaluation
Long-term, you'll also contribute to other products and projects.
Qualifikation
Must-haves:
- Degree in mechatronics, mechanical engineering, precision engineering, or similar
- Several years of experience developing mechatronic systems – from concept to physical prototype
- Solid design practice (CAD, ideally SolidWorks or Fusion 360)
- Experience with drive systems, gears, linear guides, and actuators
- Ability to lead a small, mixed team of internal and external engineers
- Understanding of electronics and sensors – you don't need to layout PCBs yourself, but you need to speak the same language as electronics engineers
- Pragmatism – you find the 80/20 solution and don't over-engineer
- Fluent in German and English
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience with 48V systems or low-voltage drive technology
- Background in food-contact design or hygienic design
- Knowledge of DfM for small-batch production (3D printing, vacuum casting, injection molding prep)
- Experience with CE certification and regulatory requirements
- Startup experience or appetite for it
Benefits
- A product you shape from the ground up – real product development, not feature factory work
- A small, ambitious team with short decision paths and real ownership
- Hybrid or remote – we have an office in Unterschleißheim, but presence isn't an end in itself
- Permanent position or freelance – whatever works
- Direct collaboration with the founders
