Research Working Student
What you will do
To help us bring amazing hearing technology to more people around the world, we are looking for a Research Working Student in Berlin.
The position shall be part-time with a workload of 15-20 h / week, initially limited to 6 months with an option for extension to 12 months.
As our Research Working Student you will...
Support Mimi's efforts in hearing testing and sound processing in collaboration with researchers and engineers :
Design and establish setups and protocols for acoustic measurements
Perform technical measurements on acoustic hardware (headphones and microphones) and analyse corresponding data
Support data acquisition in research studies with human participants (on-location and remote / online)
Analyze acquired data and present findings to relevant stakeholders
Enable development and refinement of state-of-the-art audio signal processing
Support creation of datasets for training and testing ML-methods
Perform technical simulations to characterise and optimise deep learning-based signal processing algorithms
Run listening tests to measure and validate algorithm performance
Objective and subjective sound quality evaluation for speech and music signals
What you bring to the table
Student of acoustics, audiology, perceptual psychology, media technology, or a similar field
Experience with acoustic measurements in headphone and / or room setups
Experience with sound quality evaluation, e.g. MUSHRA, PESQ, POLQA methods
Highly motivated to autonomously solve problems
Fluent in English, intermediate to fluent German skills (Level B2 or above)
Great attention to detail and superb organisational skills
Enjoy communicating and working with study participants of various ages and states of hearing
Available 15-20h per week, for 6 months, available to work at our Berlin office for at least one day per week
Nice to have
Experience in technical acoustic measurements, headphone and / or spatial acoustics
Basic knowledge of ML / deep learning methods, collection of data for training & testing
Experience with speech processing and / or the assessment of speech intelligibility
Experience in human perceptual testing, psycho-acoustics / -physics, including corresponding data analysis methods
Experience in setting up and using local laboratory or remote research setups for auditory research
Experience with programming in Python / Jupyter / Pandas or comparable setups
What success looks like in this role
In 3 months : You actively supported Mimi researchers in 2-3 research study projects and learned about Mimi's specific research and product context.
In 6 months : You are able to draft, prepare and organise a research study on your own, with support from Mimi researchers, and present the findings to the team.
